Queensland Institution of Technology (QUT) is an Australian public research university located in the coastal city of Brisbane. QUT has two campuses in Brisbane, Gardens Point, and Kelvin Grove. The current Queensland University of Technology was established in 1989, when the Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT) was elevated to the status of a university by the Queensland University of Technology Act 1988, with the resulting Queensland University of Technology commencing operations in January 1989. Brisbane College of Advanced Education and QUT joined in 1990.

In 2020, QUT will have 52,672 students enrolled (39,156 undergraduate students, 10,390 postgraduate students, and 661 non-award students), 5,049 full-time equivalents (FTE) staff members, a total income of $1.054 billion, and a total expenditure of $1.028 billion.

QUT was a member of the Australian Technology Network of universities until September 28, 2018, when it discontinued its affiliation. Queensland University of Technology (QUT) was founded in 1849 as the Brisbane School of Arts. The Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT) was established in 1965 to replace the Central Technical College. The Excellence in Research for Australia and Times Higher Education World University Rankings place QUT among the top ten Australian universities.

The university consistently ranks in the top 12 universities in Australia and the top 1% of universities worldwide, according to rankings from organizations like Times Higher Education International University Rankings, QS World University Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities, and others.

In the 2013 Top 100 Under 50 Years World Young University Rankings, QUT placed first in Australia and 26th overall, earning the distinction of being Australia’s best institution for students under the age of 50. In the 2016 and 2017 editions of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, it was ranked 28th globally in the Top 150 Under 50 category and 24th in the Top 200 Under 50 category.

It received the second-highest and top-two rankings in Australia each time. 2018 QUT is ranked 20th worldwide in THE Top 250 Under 50 years World Young Universities Rankings. QUT is ranked 19th overall in the QS Top 50 Under 50 years World Young University Rankings for 2019 and 2020.

Experts from academia, business, government, and the community work together through QUT to conduct cooperative research. The institution plays a vital role in Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners, Queensland’s first academic health science system. The Queensland University of Technology Act was passed in 1988 to give the Queensland Institute of Technology university status. (QIT). As a result, QIT was granted university status, and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) officially opened its doors in January 1989.

QUT and Brisbane College of Advanced Education merged in 1990.

The only housing for the Gardens Point campus was the 19th-century Queensland Government House. In 1909, as part of the transfer of the governor’s home, the Old Government House and its five hectares were earmarked for a university and a technical institution. Although it was eventually moved to St. Lucia, the University of Queensland, which was formerly housed on the property, is still there today.

For the Science and Engineering Financial Hardship Bursary, you must meet the following requirements:

enrolled in or enrolling for an undergraduate coursework degree provided by our Faculty of Science or Faculty of Engineering from a low-income background experiencing financial hardship.
