The Yale University Young African Scholars Program is a rigorous academic and enrichment program designed to encourage young Africans who are currently enrolled in secondary school, have further education aspirations, and want to have a significant effect as leaders while still in their youth.

Private Ivy League research university Yale University is located in New Haven, Connecticut. Having been founded in 1701 as the Collegiate School, it is the third-oldest higher education institution in the United States and one of the most well-known institutions worldwide.
The Collegiate School was established by clergy in 1701 to educate Congregational preachers. It was granted a charter by the Connecticut Colony and moved to New Haven in 1716. The curriculum had evolved by the time of the American Revolution from its original emphasis on theology and sacred languages to include the humanities and sciences as well. In the nineteenth century, the college developed into a center for graduate and professional study, awarding the first Ph.D. in American history in 1861, and becoming a university in 1887. Scientific investigation and campus development after 1890 led to a rapid growth in Yale’s faculty and student populations.
Eligibility for the Young African Scholars Program
The following requirements must be met by applicants to be eligible for the Young African Scholars Program:
To be considered, you must be 14 years old or older on the application deadline, which is February 1, 2023. Please be aware that a typical YYAS student ranges in age from 15 to 18.
able to engage in a demanding academic program offered in English.
being an African national or having a permanent address there. Applications from refugees residing in African nations will also be considered.
being enrolled in 11th grade right now (or the international equivalent).
You must complete secondary school by at least May/June 2024 if you attend classes in the Northern Hemisphere. If you attend school in the Southern Hemisphere, you must finish secondary education no later than November or December 2024.

How to Apply
Are you qualified and interested in the Young African Scholars Program? To apply, visit Yale Young Global Scholars at globalscholars.yale.edu.
To begin your Young African Scholars Program application, click APPLY NOW. Remembering your email and password will allow you to access the program later. The application must be finished and submitted by February 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
If any required components are missing, check the “Review” page of the application, and go back to any pages that need further details.
After you’ve finished your application, go to the “Review” page. At the bottom of the page, click the “Submit Application” button to continue.
A confirmation receipt from YYAS indicating the successful submission of your application should appear in your mailbox. Due to sporadic delays in payment processing, confirmation emails often appear 24 to 48 hours after submission.
You must provide the names and telephone numbers of your parent(s), guardian(s), teacher(s), and/or school official(s). Get in touch with them as soon as you can to go over the PDF of a sample blank application with them, and make sure you get the data you require.
