Michigan Technological University J. Edgar McAllister Scholarships in USA for 2023/2024


The J. Edgar McAllister Scholarships are being offered for the academic year 2023–2024 by Michigan Technological University in recognition of the financial challenges that students may encounter while pursuing their higher education overseas.

International students who wish to enroll in undergraduate or graduate degree programs at Michigan Technological University are given preference for the J. Edgar McAllister Scholarships. For consideration for this $6,000 Award, candidates must be citizens of Canada and legal residents.

The Michigan Mining School, the first post-secondary institution in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, was formed in 1885 and is now known as Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech, MTU, or just Tech). It is a public research university in Houghton, Michigan.

One of Michigan’s eight research universities, Michigan Tech is categorized as an “R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity” institution. There are 12 areas of study, including robotics, energy, ocean sciences, health, and space sciences. There are 18 research institutes, including the Michigan Tech Research Institute, on and off campus. An eight-person board of trustees that the Michigan governor appoints and the Michigan Senate confirms is in charge of the university.

Five colleges and schools make up the university: the College of Business, the College of Science and Arts, the College of Engineering, the College of Computing, and the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science. They provide almost 7,000 graduate and undergraduate students with more than 140-degree options. Its main campus is situated on a hill overlooking Portage Lake on 925 acres (374 hectares). The earliest structure on the site, which has 36 total units, was constructed in 1908.

In 1885, the Michigan Mining School served as the precursor to Michigan Tech. Jay Abel Hubbell worked hard to get the state legislators to create the school to educate mining engineers. Hubbell provided property for the initial construction of the school.

Twenty-three pupils and four staff members made up the school’s initial enrollment. From 1886 until 1889, it was located in the Houghton Fire Hall. In terms of spending on research & development, Michigan Tech was ranked 172nd out of 600 US colleges and universities in 2007. In 2017, spending on research surpassed $50 million. The institution comprises 17 research institutes and centers, as well as 273,000 square feet of lab and research space.
